Welcome to Barns Medical Practice - A Dynamic Total Training Experience

The future of General Practice is here, now!

Over the last decade, Barns Medical Practice has developed exactly the sort of Practice envisaged in the 2018 Scottish GP Contract. We have a nurse consultant, 3 nurse practitioners a practice nurse and a team of 3 healthcare practitioners as well as 5 GP Partners. We also have aligned GP clinical pharmacists, a physiotherapist, a mental health practitioner, OT and a community link worker.

We are a Total Training Practice.  We train doctors from school leaver work experience, via 3rd to 5th year medical students, FY2 to ST 1-3. We also welcome school leavers interested in a career in nursing and offer training to undergraduate students, newly qualified nurses becoming Practice Nurses and train ANP's both for our Practice and for others.  Our lead trainer mentors the development of pharmacists and physiotherapists.  We also develop administrative staff, regularly having work experience school and college students and offer training from modern apprentice to Practice Manager VTS mentorship.

We are very happy to discuss the opportunities for a career in General Practice with anyone interested in any of the disciplines. If you are interested pay us a visit.  Informal enquiries can be sent to Jan McCulloch the Practice Manager by email jan.mcculloch@aapct.scot.nhs.uk

Scottish Government Satisfaction Surveys

The Practice achieve excellent results in both the patient Health and Care Experience satisfaction survey, and the team Safety Culture survey, scoring significantly higher than the Scottish average in every area.  We also routinely assess patient satisfaction for personal reflection and learning development.

We think our excellent results can be attributed to our team ethos of "working together as equals".
